About

In a world that bombards us with depressing news and images over and over, wouldn't it be nice to call on someone that could just paint us a whimsical picture that makes us smile? Never fear, your superhero is here! It's SuperArtGirl! She'll be more than happy to fly in with her red cape and matching stripey socks to paint you something to smile about.

So who exactly *is* SuperArtGirl?
Well, that would be me, Naomi teWinkel! I was born and raised in the beautiful Comox Valley, located on Vancouver Island on the West Coast of British Columbia. I live with TheBoy, and our adorable fur kids Charlie & Linus.

How did you become an artist? It was one of those random things. When my husband, Nico, and I built our new home I decided that something needed to be done about the empty walls. Taking matters into my own hands I bought brushes and paints and got to work. I didn't really know where to start so I looked at art that I really enjoyed. I loved the bright, light hearted style of Romero Britto and started by replicating one of his images and then did some Dr.Seuss book covers. From there I was hooked. I loved the whole process of taking a blank canvas and turning it into something bright and cheerful and FUN! I posted pictures of my art on my personal blog and the response I was getting from folks was super encouraging. People were telling me how happy my paintings were making them feel and that just made me want to keep going, to keep people smiling! That was 2003 and I haven't looked back. I had my first art show (boy was I nervous bringing my art out into the community!) at Joe Reads Internet Cafe in Courtenay. I sold 6 paintings in the month I was there. I was blown away! Who knew that this painting thing would take me on a whole new adventure, but I absolutely love it and wouldn't change a thing.

Since my husband and I are pretty handy do-it-yourselfers, we decided to build our own art gallery at our home in mulBerryLand. It was completed in the spring of 2009 and looks fantastic! Nico (who is an Energy Adviser and has a blog on all things green) has the lighting running completely on solar power.

If you'd love to come see any of my art in person, you are more than welcome to come visit us at the gallery. Please call us for an appointment. Directions are below. We also host annual mulBerryLand shows open to the public in the summertime and have guest artists and musicians join us. These will be posted on mulBerryLand as well as on this site as well.

We look forward to meeting you!
