Darn you cold!

So I went and picked up a nice little nasty cold somewhere after my weekend away. Boooo! I think it must be some sort of man-cold as I'm feeling awfully whiney and unhappy. To try and cheer myself up a bit I did a little sketch today. Even though it's a rather depressing little sketch, it cheered me up some to draw it - hooray for art therapy!

Here it is:

Happy Valentine's day to you lucky ducks who did something loving and fun today! And to those of you that might be home sick with a cold like me, Happy Virus Day to you! ;)

A pet portrait - Charlie & Theo

One of my favorite things to do is paint cats. This was a commissioned
pet portrait that was a Christmas gift from one sister to another. Charlie
apparently likes to steal straws out of drinks and Theo likes to take
hair elastics and hide them in his food dish. What a cute pair!

My office redo

I redesigned my husband's office this fall and it turned out wonderfully. It was a space that both of us enjoyed being in. My office became a sort of dumping ground for "stuff" and I decided that enough was enough. I wanted a space in the house again to paint and get my craft on.

So here it is, my office BEFORE and AFTER. I just love that room now. It's so clean, fresh and an inspiring place to be.

Happy 2013! Wow I can't believe it's a new year already. How exciting! One of my favorite things is setting new intentions and new goals for a fresh new year. Something I'm going to do more of this year is DOODLE! Don't you just love that word? Doodle doodle doodle. I don't do enough doodling - but this year that's going to change. I'm playing with the iPad more so once I figure out the sketch app that I'm using on it, I'll post some of my little doodles here. At the end of the year I had the wonderful opportunity to do a few commissions. I'm going to get some of them posted here as well. I was so excited to hear how the gifts were received. It's always fun but often nerve wracking because I always hope the recipient LIKES it. All is well, everyone seems to be happy. Here's wishing you all a wonderful new year. Dream big, and don't forget to doodle ;)

A muLLie in Holland

Received this sweet photo from Zara's mom.
She loves her new muLLie named 'MakeUp'.
I'm sure they will have a lot of fun adventures together.
I wonder if MakeUp will end up in some wooden shoes? ;)

muLLie madness!

I've been a busy little muLLie maker this last little while getting a bunch of muLLies ready for the Filberg Festival in Comox Aug 3 - 6. This is what 104 muLLies look like! They've officially taken over my entire staircase.

They have all been priced and named (all names start with an "M" of course) and are ready for adoption at the Filberg. Hope to see you there!

This muLLie was adopted a couple weeks before the festival by an adorable 6 year old named Adam. He has been loving up his muLLie big time according to his mom. Aren't they cute together?

Stop Motion Video of me painting a Pet Portrait!

I've seen artists doing stop motion videos of them painting from start to finish and I've been wanting to try this for ages! I loved watching them, they're fun! So when I was approached from a local business about doing a different kind of stop motion project, I thought it was time for me to give this whole thing a try to see how it works. I found the timer for my DSLR and since I had this small pet portrait commission to do I tried it on that and it worked pretty slick! I need to figure out a way to get the lighting more even for the next ones I do but overall I'm happy how it turned out for my first try.

Have a look and watch a pet portrait come alive :)

A portrait of me by Emily - hey that rhymes!

My friend Emily is a budding young artist. She's really talented and does such super cute critters and caricatures of people. She recently drew me! How flattering! I absolutely love it! Aren't I adorable? :)

Thanks Em! Keep drawing and dreaming!

New for SuperArtGirl....

Well it's official. I am no longer SuperCollegeGirl, I am SuperDiplomaGirl! I've completed my Digital Design for Print & Web diploma program with a 99% average. Maybe I should be renamed to SuperNerdGirl? ;)

Now that school is finished it gave me the time to get some new paintings done for the Square Foot Show at the Purple Onion Deli from June to July. All the art is 12x12 and there are 8 artists participating (including me). The opening reception is July 11th at 7pm on Port Augusta Street in Comox. There will be food, wine, music, you don't want to miss it! Sadly I have to miss it as I am off to Alaska for my first ever vacation. Yay for vacation! Boo for missing such a fun event. Hope YOU can make it!

SuperArtGirl goes to College....

Thought I'd make a little update here on how college is going. It's been GOOD. I'm learning a lot, getting awesome marks and the great thing about it that I'm liking the most is that it's getting me thinking out of the box creatively again. What's not to love about that? I've been in a bit of a slump creatively lately, or maybe I've just been feeling lazy! Regardless, this has me doodling and trying new things in the fabulous applications that are in the Adobe Creative Suite.

Right now I'm in Illustrator (just finished Flash). I've already been using this program for some logos and things but am looking forward to learning some new tools and different ways to do things. The above image is what I made in class today. I'm currently using it as my desktop image. Feel free to use it too! :)

Happy Holidays from mulBerryLand!

The course I'm taking at college right now is Adobe Flash.
We've been learning the basics of animation, so here is a
little something I put together with my new found knowledge!

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season :)

SuperArtGirl is rockin' InFocus magazine!

There is something to be said about what you think becomes your reality. I had been wanting to be in our local InFocus magazine for about a year. I love this magazine, it's free and can be found at the local farm stand, Extra Foods, Edible Island and other great places in the Comox Valley. I always pick one up when I see a new one out. So when we had our annual mulBerryLand art & garden show this summer and writer, Terri Perrin attended the show and told me she would love to write an article on me for InFocus, I was downright giddy!

She did such a fabulous job. And this month it's out! You can read the article by following this link:
