SuperArtGirl is rockin' InFocus magazine!

There is something to be said about what you think becomes your reality. I had been wanting to be in our local InFocus magazine for about a year. I love this magazine, it's free and can be found at the local farm stand, Extra Foods, Edible Island and other great places in the Comox Valley. I always pick one up when I see a new one out. So when we had our annual mulBerryLand art & garden show this summer and writer, Terri Perrin attended the show and told me she would love to write an article on me for InFocus, I was downright giddy!

She did such a fabulous job. And this month it's out! You can read the article by following this link:

College girl!

The recent news in my life is that I'm going to College! I'm taking the Digital Design for Print & Web Diploma program at Excel Career College. I'm super excited about this life change! I've been really wanting to learn the Adobe Creative Suite, and now I have the chance.

I'm feeling very blessed with this new opportunity for learning.

My art in a musical

Tonight TheBoy and I went to see the musical "Common Ground" written by Breanne Larson & Joey Clarkson. My artwork along with the artwork of Sofie Skapski was part of the set as the scene was set in a coffee shop. The girls completely took me off guard when they announced to the audience that there was a special guest in the audience - turned out it was me! *blush*

It was an interactive set where at intermission you could go up and order drinks & treats yourself, how fun is that? Oh and before the play began we had noticed a nice comfy loveseat as part of the seating in the audience. Before the play began they said to pick a number between 1 & 40 and whoever guessed the correct number could enjoy the show from the comfy couch. Nico yelled out 17 and that was the number - score!

Here we are enjoying our Ellen Degeneres style seating...

Our friend's son was also in the play, he was dressed up in a Spiderman outfit. He was SO good, not to mention cute and funny.

The play overall was just incredible. The story, the songs, the actors...I am just blown away by the amazing talent we have here.

Fun filled Friday!

So our Friday the 13th wasn't spooky, it was just jam packed! We were asked to set up a display in front of the Comox Valley Art Gallery as part of their "Get Your Arts Outside" event that happens every Friday from noon till 4pm this summer. The CVEx was going to be there as well with the cutouts I did for them, there was live music, a lady spinning wool, another artist painting onsite and ME :)

After our day there we had to rush home, unpack the van and get ready for the backyard concert we were hosting here with the lovely and talented Stacy Burke and adorable and funny Ben Sures.

It was a very full day but one that was quite enjoyable! I am, however looking forward to some upcoming down time even though we are working on organizing a Health & Wellness fair event that we will be having in our backyard in September which I'm looking forward to. The next couple weeks the calendar isn't super full like it has been and that has me already feeling a lot more relaxed! Today we're taking a leisurely road trip out to Coombs Country Market and will maybe stop off at a river or take in the sand castle competition in Qualicum on the way home.

Cutouts for the CVEx

I was asked by the Comox Valley Exhibition to design/paint cutouts for their fair at the end of August. The designs are on t-shirts, used in their advertising and now they have life-sized cutouts to display at the fair. They had a naming contest for the animals and the names have been chosen.

They are:
Chicken = "Chicklet"
Cow = "Ms.Cowaline"
Pig= "Truffle"
Horse = "Sir Neigh"
Sheep = "Marshmallow"

Here I am with the Herd...

This was such a fun project!

My artwork is going to be in a MUSICAL!

I am super excited that I was asked for my artwork to be used in the upcoming musical, Common Ground, written and produced by the super talented Joey Clarkson.

The scene for this musical is set in a cafe which will be a real working cafe during intermission where people can order drinks. The story is incredibly fun and is based around internet dating.

It'll be playing at the Vanier theatre from Aug 18-22. You don't want to miss it! :)

Ben Sures in mulBerryLand Aug.13th @7pm!

If you haven't yet had the pleasure of seeing Ben Sures play in person, then you've been missing out! The good news is, you have the opportunity of seeing him in mulBerryLand on August 13th in a very special outdoor concert.

Bring your chair or a blanket to Mulberry Lane in Comox on August 13th at 7pm and prepare to be entertained!

Tickets are $20 and space is limited so call and reserve your tickets now! Looking forward to seeing you there.

The mulBerryLand mobiles!

Well after a year of desire to vinyl up our vehicles, and a few weeks of design work, yesterday was the day it finally became reality and we couldn't be happier. *Click pic to view larger*

We went with Grant Signs in Campbell River and not only were they super easy to work with, the results were just what we wanted! If you need signage, you can't go wrong with hiring these guys/gals!

So if you see the mulBerryLand mobiles driving around, make sure to give us a wave! We'll be hard to miss on the road with our big green muLLie ;)

SuperArtGirl and her furry sidekick...

Just a little sketch I did today as I was sitting at my desk with Charlie right beside me basking in the sunshine. He's such a good helper!

I have packing to do for a long weekend away in Vancouver - we're heading over Friday morning, going to hit up IKEA and Roller Girl (will be trading my Converse in for some skates baby!), Saturday we'll check out Stanley Park and the aquarium, meet up with friends for dinner and Sunday we'll set up at Portobello West. After that we're off to Victoria to hang out with our BFFs for a couple days.

Thankfully Charlie will have his own fun, he's got his two girls that come stay and play with him while we are away.

SuperArtGirl's Super Painting Give-Away!

Since I've never had a painting give-away contest I thought it was about time I did!

"Rest Stop" pictured here is 2'5x2'5 and could be living in your home shortly.

Here's how it works:
All you have to do is 1) invite your friends to join my fan page here, 2) have them comment on the page saying they were referred by you. 3) Then either post on the wall or send me a message telling me what you love about my artwork.

That's it! The draw will be made on Sunday April 17th to pick the lucky winner!
Good luck!!! :)

Alice in Wonderland paintings

I loved the new Tim Burton movie of Alice in Wonderland. It was fabulous. I thought in honor of that movie I would do a few Alice inspired paintings. They were so much fun to do! I hope you enjoy them too...

The art mobile is all packed up and tomorrow morning we're off to Vancouver to set up at the Portobello West Market. We'll be there Saturday & Sunday from Noon to 6pm. If you're in the area please stop by and say hello and check out some new work as well as all the new muLLies for sale. This will be my first time doing this market and I'm really excited about it! It's nice to expand my territory and bring my art to different cities. I've worked really hard these last couple weeks so I'm looking forward to this weekend full of meeting people and having some FUN!

I need your votes and so does Kenya!

I entered an art contest that is supporting One Drop of Hope, a Vancouver Island based initiative supporting projects in Kenya. Funds raised go towards providing education, child care, clean water systems and alternative income programs in the slums of Nairobi and rural areas of Western Kenya.

Here is the painting I submitted called "See Jane Fly"...

To vote for me click HERE!

In the Vote For box please put "Naomi teWinkel" or "See Jane Fly".
Votes are $2 each and proceeds go to projects in Kenya. Please pass this on to anyone else you think can help too!

Thanks in advance! :)

A muLLie fan with BlenderFish at FireFly!

This is Hunter. She's posing with her mulBerryLand muLLie in front of Firefly's fabulous window display staring BlenderFish made by yours truly.

If you haven't visited Firefly on 5th Street in Courtenay yet, I encourage you to check them out. Not only do they have fun window displays, they also carry everything a mom and a child could want - including mulBerryLand muLLies!

Happy Birthday Dr.Seuss!

It's no secret that I am a big Dr.Seuss fan. Today, March 2nd, is his birthday. He would have been 106 today. Thank you for all you've brought to the world Theodor! You continue to inspire me.

Art mobile gets a new "homey" look!

I absolutely love our quirky right hand drive Mitsubishi Delica. It's been the most fabulous art mobile ever. Last year in the summer I bought some really funky yellow chicken fabric on Ebay to make curtains for it. Because, what's a hippie van without curtains?

This Valentine's Day I asked TheBoy if we could work on a project together. He agreed and the day was spent cutting fabric (for him) and sewing cool chicken curtains (for me).

And VOILA! We're done and couldn't be happier.
I know, you're in awe at the coolness. So am I ;)
(and yes, I made pillows too!)
